Kehinde Oyedepo a.k.a Kosmac and his team have cried out about the nomination of Secret Room in the Best Art Director (Movie/TV Series) category of AMVCA 2015, which was credited to Crey Ahanonu/ Simon Peacmaker who served as the Production Manager and Producer respectively on the project, instead of him.
Dear AMVCA 2015 Team
According to them, the conceptualization and execution of ideas for the art direction in the movie was solely carried out by Kehinde Oyedepo and now has been 'manipulated' to be the handwork of Crey and Simon. According to his people, Kehinde who was promised a fee of N80,000, was initially paid N40,000, then later N20,000 and still has a balance of N20,000 to go and now they can't even give him the credit he worked for, they said. They have written the AMVCA 2015 Team and also want Nigerians to know. Continue below to see the letter sent to AMVCA made available to us as well.
I will like to bring to your notice over an emerging controversy concerning the nomination of Secret Room in the Best Art Director (Movie/TV Series) category of AMVCA 2015.
Art Direction in Secret Room on the category list is credited to Crey Ahanonu/ Simon Peacmaker who in reality served as Production Manager and Producer respectively on the project.
The conceptualization and execution of ideas for the art direction in Secret Room was solely carried out by Kehinde Oyedepo a.k.a Kosmac who I believe was intentionally left out of the credit list.
Kehinde Oyedepo was hired as an Art Director during production for Secret Room, which was done in 2013. Hiring was done via word of mouth as he was contracted to work through Ismaila, Secret Room's Lights Director.
Due to his likeness for Secret Room's script, Kehinde Oyedepo helped secure location to facilitate shoot.
Although there was no written document but a verbal agreement on fees, Kehinde Oyedepo was contracted on a NGN80,000 fee that has not been fully paid as at today. He was paid NGN40,000 as first payment, NGN20,000 as second payment while the balance is still unpaid.
Kehinde Oyedepo has tried contacting Crey Ahanonu to no avail. Its suffice to say that Crey Ahanonu is trying to infringe on Kehinde Oyedepo's creative & intellectual rights.
As an artist and a creative mind, Kehinde Oyedepo expects that even without his full payment, Crey Ahanonu would credit his work and not try to steal or exploit him.
As a respected brand and organization in Africa; AfricaMagic, Multichoice and AMVCA seek to showcase the African content through the display & reward of the creative yet hardworking artist.
Therefore, I request that AMVCA beckons on Crey Ahanonu/Simon Peacemaker to correct the error and give credit to whom credit is due before the awards ceremony.
I believe this injustice won't become an oversight on AMVCA's watch.
