IN THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS...

We search for happiness and fulfillment like we do our daily bread but instead we find difficulty and a theme of obscurity and then, our only hope seem hopeless and shattered. We get ridiculed even by our presumed loved ones. All of a sudden, the world become our worse night mare ever in history. But, let us not forget that the world only paves way for those who know their way.

I look to see the world in my own eyes but all I see is the green vegetation and the blue sky. I look further, only to see my reflection in the river of a chaotic world of uncertainty, but what I crave for is, a serene existence of man where perfection is our theme song but where do I go from here? Because, I am tired of being caught between two civilisations of illusion and reality.

I wake up to a brand new day to see a shimmering amber of bliss that leads to an everlasting life of our self made dreams. Living our dreams, bringing that imagination that seem impossible to reality, not living by means (what we have), the mercies of others (what people condition us to live by), or chance (what circumstance subject us to), but living by choice (what we truly want). It is a simple life, but we are neglected by the diamonds (wealth), picked up by the nickels and dimes (poverty), but encouraged by our faith, hope, and dreams for a better day (self), because I am a survivor when it comes to happiness.

Research has it that happiness is the most searched word in the dictionary, that's because people search and crave for it without necessarily knowing its true meaning and values. Happiness is not something you find in the forest or the four walls of an educational institution, it's within. It's a self searching process we need to learn and adopt while people have cried for it, waited patiently for it, hoped for it, read about it and others have dreamt of it. But that's not the way to finding happiness.

Happiness is not what we strive for but it's a gift from mother nature, it's of the body, mind and soul. True happiness is to enjoy the present, without anxious dependence upon the future, not to amuse ourselves with either hopes or fears but to be rest satisfied with what we have, which is sufficient, for he that is so wants nothing. The great blessings of mankind are within us and within our reach. "It's not in the pursuit of happiness that we find fulfilment, it is in the happiness of pursuit", said Denis Waitley. A wise man is content with his lot, whatever it may be, without wishing for what he has not.

Finally, it all boils down to what happiness means to us individually because when it comes to happiness our realities differ. People have different yard sticks of measuring happiness, some are based on our past success (wealth), relationship (our loved ones), or even an obsession (what we love) but I could not agree less with what Gary Zukav, author of Dancing Wu Li Masters has to say about reality:

Reality is what we take to be true,
What we take to be true is what we believe,
What we believe is based upon our perceptions,
What we perceive depends upon what we look for,
What we look for depends upon what we think,
What we think depends upon what we perceive,
What we perceive determines what we believe,
What we believe determines what we take to be true,
What we take to be true is our reality.

People are free to pursue happiness, but there is no guarantee they will achieve it. The secret is knowing how- and where- to look. The pursuit of happiness is a part of our personal constitution and make up as a living being. That's why Thomas Jefferson, America's Founding Father, noted "In the Declaration of Independence that all men are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights which includes the pursuit of happiness". It is every humans birthright and it is within every person's possibility to achieve. To be successful in your pursuit of happiness you will need to dissolve the assumptions and criteria in the mind that interfere with authentic happiness. In our pursuit of happiness it is important to recognise which paths are illusion and dead ends. A completely different approach to being happy is to create happiness.
