Chris Rock not boycotting Oscars – Despite the amount of controversy trailing the 88th Academy Awards, show host Chris Rock will not be quitting.
There had been much speculation that a number of black stars, including Rock, would be boycotting the show over the racial bias in the nominations, with only white actors getting nods in the lead categories.
The producer of the show, Reginald Hudlin, dispelled rumors that Rock was going to quit the show, adding that he and his team had “locked themselves in a room. As things got a little provocative and exciting, he said, ‘I’m throwing out the show I wrote and writing a new show.’”
“Yes, the academy is ready for him to do that,” Hudlin said when asked about if Rock’s material was gonna center on the white nominations.
“They’re excited about him doing that. They know that’s what we need. They know that’s what the public wants, and we deliver what the people want.”
A number of black stars have already announced a boycott of the awards, including Will and Jada Pinkett-Smith, with director Spike Lee revealing he’d be attending an NBA game that night.
