Several members of the People's Democratic Party in Sokoto State on Sunday defected to the All Progressives Congress, APC.
The defectors, said to be over 4,000 were received into the APC fold in Isa by the state governor, Aliyu Wamakko.
Mr. Wamakko, who was represented by the state's Commissioner for Agriculture, Arzika Tureta, commended them for their action.
"APC is the party to beat across Nigeria during the 2015 general elections", he said.
The governor promised the party's new entrants of equal and fair treatment with the older members of the party.
He also said APC was out to salvage Nigeria and expressed optimism that it would win the 2015 general elections at all levels.
The party's Acting State Chairman, Usman Danmadamin-Isa, commended Mr. Wamakko for evenly transforming the state from 2007 to date.
"More people will soon join the APC and we will collectively work to ensure the success of the party at all levels during the forthcoming general polls", he said.
Also speaking, Umar Wali, the caretaker chairman of the local government, said the decampees were drawn from the 10electoral wards of the local government area.
A spokesman of the decampees, Umar Suleiman, said their action was spurred by the tremendous achievements of Mr. Wamakko from 2007 to date.
