MEN'S STYLE: Create Your Own Unique Style.... Must Read

House Of Fraser Howick AW14 Lookbook

Have you noticed that anyone who tries to copycat someone else’s style is always perceived as a "wannabe"? That’s because the man who is being copied has pulled together his own unique mens style from several trends in clothing and that style suits him because it is his style. He may love the casual look of jeans, but he likes the more formal look of a white shirt and tie, so he combines them with a vest. His look is totally pulled together and he carries it off with style and comfort, but it just doesn’t look right on you. Why not?

First of all, you must have the ability to see a shirt or a pair of pants and realize that it looks good on the mannequin, but you could never pull it off. How are you able to do that? You must know what looks good on your body type. Just because it comes in your size does not mean you should put it on. The ensemble mentioned before would not look the same on a guy 5’10” tall with a slender build as it would on a 6’2” body builder. The body builder would look ridiculous. (I hope you knew that.)
If you just broke up with your wife or girlfriend who always told you what to wear, then you will have to start your fashion education on your own. Besides if you left it to someone else to tell you what to wear, then you wore what she liked. There may have been times when you did not like her taste in men’s clothing at all, but you went along with it because she was better at choosing your clothing than you were. So now we begin to create your own unique style.
Your own unique style involves your life, personality, taste, interests and last but not least, your body type. No one else has your unique style. If you think you don’t have a style, think again. It lies deep within you. Ask yourself the following questions: Do you like how you look in your clothes? Do you love getting dressed?
If you answered "no" to either or both of these questions, then your unique sense of style needs to be awakened to a whole new world of fashion possibilities. Here are a few suggestions on where to start.
Men’s fashion magazines can give you some clues. Pick up a copy of Details, Esquire and GQ. Pick out pictures of clothes you like. Wait a minute! Don’t rush out and buy just yet. You will need to…
Know your measurements. Go to a tailor or to a men’s department store and have your measurements taken. Know what size shirt and pants fit you. Never buy something that is too small or too large. If clothing does not fit, it will look like it does not fit.
Know what colours look good on you. Have your colours done professionally. She can tell you how to use colour to enhance you.
These tips will help you get started on the road to finding your unique style.
