A Private School In Kenya To Honour Hollywood Actress Lupita Nyong'o By Renaming It After Her

A private primary school in Dandora has been renamed in honour of Oscar star, Lupita Nyong'o.

Formerly Eagles Safe Hands Education Centre, the school will be known as Lupita Bright Stars Educational Centre.

Speaking to The Nairobian, the school's founder, Alice Anyasi Shiangala said this was the only was she could celebrate Lupita.

"I decided to rename my school after watching Lupita's father, Prof Anyang' Nyong'o, being interviewed by Jeff Koinange on KTN. I was touched by her story. She is a true star who deserves better recognition. She has brought fame to our country," she said.

"I talked to my husband about changing the school's name and he agreed. We are now working on the legal process, including replacing old signposts and banners."
Currently, the school admits students up to class four and plans are underway to expand it.
