Pandemonium In Edo State House Of Assembly Following Impeachment Of Speaker, Deputy Speaker

EDO
A year after resuming office, the Speaker of the Edo State House of AssemblyHonourable Victor Edoror and his Deputy were impeached on Tuesday, April 3 following accusations of incompetence and high-handedness.

The two principal officers were impeached by 15 members of the 24-member Assembly.
A new speaker Mrs Elizabeth Ativie was elected as replacement after their impeachment which led to pandemonium in the House with lawmakers fighting among themselves. There also a footage of Edoror attempting to drag the newly elected speaker off the Speaker’s seat.

Speaking with news men, Edoror following his purported impeachment said the House members had met without his consent, insisting he was the only one that has the power to convene the plenary.

“I was not there when they started. Can you start a sitting without me.

“They never put an allegation before me. I have not heard from them and I think they are frivolous allegations if they are so started,” he added.

As at today, heavy presence of security operatives was seen around the complex.
Police officials and those of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps were spotted around the complex with arms, blocking access to the House of Assembly.
