Leonardo DiCaprio’s mum is lined up as his Oscars date on Sunday night. DiCaprio has been linked to many glamorous women but is likely to snub them on what could be the biggest night of his career.
He is hotly tipped to pick up the Best Actor gong – his first Academy Award – for the harrowing and brutal hit film The Revenant. He wants proud mum Irmelin Indenbirken, 73, at his side at his moment of triumph.
DiCaprio, 41, has already won this year’s Golden Globe and Bafta for playing relentless frontiersman Hugh Glass in The Revenant. And at this month’s Baftas he paid tribute to his mum.
He said: “I would not be standing up here if it wasn’t for this person. I didn’t grow up in a life of privilege, I grew up in a very rough neighbourhood in east Los Angeles. This woman drove me three hours a day to a different school to show me a different opportunity. It’s her birthday today. Mom, happy birthday. I love you very much,” he said.
