The International Association Of Athletics Federation (IAAF) World Championship ended today, with some remarkable as well as forgettable moments for athletes.
With much promise and expectations for a close battle for the heart and soul of the track, Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt as well as American Justin Gatlin were obviously the ones to watch out for.
Nigerians of course had their hopes pinned on sprinter Blessing Okagbare- our hopes were to be dashed as Nigeria exited the tournament with no medal.
Usain Bolt continued his tyrannical dominance of the track with an amazing triple haul, beating Gatlin in the 100 and 200 meters event. He was also the anchor as Jamaica grabbed gold in the 4 X 100 event- it doesn’t get better than that.
At the end of the tournament, the medals table was topped by none other than Kenya. In what was an amazing turnout for the East Africans, they recorded a haul of seven gold medals, six silver as well as three bronze medals.
Kenya retained their reputation as the champions of the distance, with Asbel Kiprop winning gold in the 1500m. President Uhuru Kenyatta took to Twitter to express his pride in Kenya’s athletes; “Our young people have once again shown that they are as good as the world’s best and brightest.”
