Legendary film composer, James Horner is dead.
Horner, who was known most popularly for his work on 1997 classic, Titanic, died on Monday after a plane he was in crashed near Santa Barbara, Carlifornia.
His death was announced by his assistant, Sylvia Patrycja. He was aged 61.
“We have lost an amazing person with a huge heart and unbelievable talent,” Patrycja wrote on Facebook on Monday. “He died doing what he loved. Thank you for all your support and love and see you down the road.”
Horner won two Academy awards over his career, winning Best Original Dramatic Score for Titanic, and Best Original Song for My Heart Will Go On, which was performed byCeline Dion.
His work on Titanic sold over 27 million copies world-wide, and he worked with Titanic’s director James Cameron on many more projects, including blockbusters Aliens and Avatar.
Horner received 10 Oscar nominations in all, for scores on films such as Braveheart andRussell Crowe‘s 2001 classic A Beautiful Mind.
Other films in his catalogue include Apollo 13, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, Star Trek III: The Search for Spock, and The Amazing Spider-Man.
