For the benefit of those who have been too busy to read the Holy Bible of late, I will open this piece with two verses. Psalm 1 verse 1 says: "Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful."
Similarly, Psalm 26 vs 4-6 says: "I have not sat with vain persons, neither will I go with dissemblers. I have hated the congregation of evil doers; and will not sit with the wicked. I will wash mine hands in innocency: so will I compassthine altar, O Lord."
One must agree that the romancebetween 'supposed' men of God and politicians as the generalelections draws near have become pretty frightening. Although this is not the first time that this is happening but the manner of partisanship by these men have led to me to the conclusion that Christians across the globe need to wake.
Straight to the point. In the Bible, Elijah never went on pilgrimage with Ahab and Jezebel, neither did Nathan mince words when he delivered the message of God to David in 2 Samuel 12 but the men of God today have found a way to walk in the counsel of the ungodly and stand in the way of sinners.
Even more frightening is their actions and inactions. Bishop David Oyedepo and Pastor E.A. Adeboye find time out of their busy schedule to settle the dispute between former president, Olusegun Obasanjo and President Goodluck Jonathan as if it were of national importance and urgency. They both were also at Jonathan's niece's wedding when many of their branches and parishes would have been happy if they had used that time to visit them.
Hundreds of members of their churches die in the Northeast of Nigeria but they will not call a meeting with Obasanjo and Jonathan to discuss how this will come to an end.
They will say nothing of the corruption that is ravaging this country or of the leaders who are destroying generations unborn. Some say the action of these pastors are not endorsement of politicians, then what are they? In 95 per cent of cases, 'actionspeak louder than words' and their action is enough to show their allegiance.
In the Bible, men of God were reputed for stating the mind of God. Elijah said there will be no rain for 'these years' and there was no rain. When he called the Prophet of Baal to a contest, he proved that God answers by fire and after slaughtering the prophet of Baal, Jezebel called for his head. Similarly, Moses told Pharaoh God will plague Egypt if he did not let the Israelites go and God did that and even more.
Perhaps our sugar-coated pastors of nowadays do not hear from God like in the past or perhaps God's message and word has changed.
Today, prosperity-laden messages are paramount on their lips and also visible in their books. With these, they have managed to lead many astray. Humanity means little or nothing to them. They'll rather fly private jets and ride the best cars claiming that their God is rich. Their schools are the most expensive and the ideology of 'missionary' counts little to them.
If Jesus is the God they claim to serve he never rode a convoy of donkeys or colts, even when he made the 'Triumphant Entry' into Jerusalem he only used an ass and a colt.
Don't get me wrong, everyone has the freedom of associationbut they need not do it in the name of God and also desecrate his altar by inviting these violent, evil-doing, blood-sucking politicians to speak on it. The Bible is clear on the relationship of light and darkness as well as God and mammoth.
Some members say these pastors discuss these things in private but if prophets of old had discussions with the King in private perhaps we will have nothing to read in the Bible as those 'private discussions' could not have been recorded except they had 'Wikileaks' then.
In 2 Corinthians 6 vs 14, the Bible said: Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness?
Romans 12 vs 2 reads: "Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect."
I encourage every Christian to look up to God, the author andfinisher of our faith. Pick up your Bible and read it. Let the Holy Spirit lead you because this is the end time and only a personal relationship with God can save anyone.
