Sensational Singer Mariah Carey Tops ‘TIME’s List Of Most Successful & Enduring Singers Of All Time

Mariah's recent album sales may have been described as elusive, but it hasn't stopped the icon from taking the top spot when it comes to success, according to TIME's list of enduring entertainers.

TIME achieved this by using a points system which sees each act on the tally awarded a score for every hit they scored on the Billboard Hot 100.

Here TIME used 50 pop stars that have had hits since 1960s and the table is here for your viewing.

Mariah Carey tops with 1901, followed by Rihanna who will probably overtake her pretty soon with 1800 points. Usher came in 3rd place with 1778 points.

US to Conduct EBOLA Vaccine Trial in Nigeria

The United States health officials have said they are considering a trial test of the recently launched Ebola vaccine in Nigeria, as they also prepare to test the vaccine in The Gambia and Mali in mid-September.

The Ebola vaccine was developed by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), a part of the US National Institutes of Health, and GlaxoSmithKline. The testing is expected to start on Tuesday with 20 volunteers to see if the virus is safe for use on humans.

According to the statement, these trials are conducted in healthy adults who are not infected with Ebola virus to determine if the vaccine is safe and induces an adequate immune response. The statement reads in part:

The US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention has initiated discussions with Ministry of Health officials in Nigeria about the prospects for conducting a Phase 1 safety study of the vaccine among healthy adults in that country.

The pace of human safety testing for experimental Ebola vaccines has been expedited in response to the ongoing Ebola virus outbreak in West Africa. The early-stage trial will begin initial human testing of a vaccine co-developed by NIAID and GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) and will evaluate the experimental vaccine's safety and ability to generate an immune system response in healthy adults. Testing will take place at the NIH Clinical Center in Bethesda, Maryland,"

Nigeria's Electricity Generation Improving 4500MW And Rising..

Nigeria's electricity generation profile has again risen to approximately 4500 megawatts, in addition to excess considerable spinning reserve, the Minister of Power, Prof. Chinedu Nebo said Friday in Abuja.

Nebo's disclosure of this recovered electricity generation capacity also coincided
with Nigeria's signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with Brazilian firm, Benco Energie Limited for the construction of a 700MW combined cycle power plant in Bayelsa State, Southern Nigeria.

The Minister stated at the MOU signing ceremony that the current growth in nationwide electricity generation and distribution has been aided by increase in gas supply to thermal generation plants in the country, as well as relative stability in the transmission network.

Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade Say “I Do” In A Castle

Dwyane Wade and his queen Gabrielle Union say "I do" today at a castle called 'Chateau Artisan' in Miami, Florida.
The cute couple picked this 'castle fortress' not only for its fabulous facility of 8 bedrooms and 7.5 baths sitting on 14 acres but also because of its privacy as this castle is surrounded by a moat.
It is glaring Dwyane and Gabby wants their ceremony to be private as their guests signed a confidentiality agreement, and no one attending is permitted to use any social media.
No one knows how the occasion would look like except someone dares to tweet…

How To Spot A Fake Abuja Big Boy By Chinenye Ugonna

According to Chinenye Ugonna of Premium Times. Fake broke guys with no means of livelihood, lmao.

This week, we are going to put the spotlight on fake Abuja big boys, FABBs too – they are all FABBs. These guys are always well-dressed with flashy cars. Some of them are even from rich homes. You see them looking like a bag of money, meanwhile nothing in their bank accounts. There is nothing wrong with looking good and not having money to back it up. There is only something wrong when you are doing it for packaging. Continue below...

1. Always with the fake accent: Apparently, this is not exclusive to the babes. The male FABBs use all the accents in the world; British, American and Nigerian accent all muddled up in one. If they are talking to a babe who probably lived in the UK with a British accent, their accent automatically changes just to impress. Please, embrace your Nigerian accent, whether it is an Igbo, Yoruba or Hausa accent, be proud of it. You don't see an American man trying to talk like a Nigerian.

2. He only dates working girls: This is a highly defining character of the male FABB. They do not date jobless babes. If you don't have a J -O -B, then it's onto the next one. They do not want to be bothered about taking care of a babe who's probably still in school or sharing CV about. That is not in their dictionary of potential girlfriends.

3. He drives the flashiest of flashy cars: Warning: Don't be deceived, the car belongs to their father or uncle.

4. He always has a political connection: A typical Abuja boy is always related to some politician or influential person. The politicians are always their uncle but hardly ever their father. Sometimes, it could even be a politician they have met once- he becomes their uncle.

5. He is a mummy's boy: Most of the rich male FABBs live off the wealth of their family who still pay for everything they own. If you know a guy who lives in a very expensive duplex in Maitama but does not have a regular job, check that guy! They probably even get monthly allowance from their parents every month as grown men. Hey, not judging, you do you.

6. He immediately introduces you to his family/friends: Imagine you meet this nice looking guy in Abuja, and before you know it, he has introduced you to his family and friends. In your mind, you are thinking that you are an iyawo (wife in the Yoruba language), not knowing you are girlfriend no. 9.

7. He spontaneously proposes to you after a short period of dating: They tell you that you are a wife material or even propose marriage so they can be living off their new working class babe. You would cook, clean and before you know it, you have turned to their provider. Their food, shelter, and clothing would be taken care of by the working class babe. They start with "Please, borrow me N10, 000, I would pay you back." Next time, it's N20, 000 and then it keeps increasing. Of course, the babe will never get her money back. If you are guilty of this, it's not good o! It should be a joint effort.

8. He only remembers his babe on Thursdays: This is the time to remember all the hook-ups they have forgotten from Monday to Wednesday. They need to get a babe to turn up with during the weekend. If Halima doesn't respond, Salewa will. After all there are many fishes in the sea.

9. He doesn't have a proper job: This is not referring to the guys who genuinely work/hustle for their money from Monday to Friday to make ends meet. Thumbs up! This is for the guys who claim they work during the week but people still cannot point a finger on what they do. On Friday, they would be the first to update their status with: "Turn up weekend, TGIF".

10. He's always the first to pop bottles in the club: They are always the first to order bottles just to impress. When it's time to pay, they would remember they have to go to the bathroom. It's not by force to pop champagne. After popping and being forced to pay, they come home to eat noodles. Bear in mind that the money would have bought you a nice plate of jollof rice and a big fat chicken.

So, there you have the Fake Abuja Big Boy, FABB away.

Babatunde Omidina Aka Baba Suwe His Set to Remarry, 5 years after Wife's Death

Babatunde Omidina known as Baba Suwe is  a successful comedian better known for his exploits in Yoruba home videos. After his much publicised crisis with National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, he lost his wife, Omoladun, who was almost always his soul-mate, even in films in 2009. Baba Suwe talked with Potpourri about his late wife and revealed he will be getting married again soon. Excerpts: -
  • How have you been coping without a wife?
It has not been easy but life must go on. I believe whatever happens has been pre-ordained. The death of Omoladun was a great loss I cannot get over in this lifetime. She will remain my best companion. She understood me than any other person on planet earth. At times when we quarrel in the house, she would abuse me on set and that would mark the end of the issue.
  • Any plan of remarrying?
Yes . In fact pretty soon.
  • Who is the lucky bride?
You can't know her for now. She is not an actress because I can't marry an actress again.
  • Are you insinuating Omoladun was not a good wife?
No, I don't mean anything of such. What I mean is that I cannot get someone like Omoladun among the actresses again. Her good acting skills is one of the reasons I loved her but I have decided to check else where for love.
  • After the death of Omoladun, your step daughter accused you of killing her mother?
That is mere rumour. She later came out to say she never said that. We were all staying in the same building. Omoladun was hypertensive for a long time and I did my best as a husband, a friend, and colleague to take adequate care of her. At a time she spent months at a hospital. The day the bad incident happened, I was about praying when I told my child to go wake Omoladun because we had an appointment. It was this child who ran out to call me and with the help of neighbors, we rushed her to the hospital. The doctor confirmed her death on arrival.
  • Has her death affected your career?
Not really. There are many people who can take her role but I miss her so much. After her death, I produced "Baba Jaiye" part two and it was a huge success.

FEDERAL GOVERNMENT BRANDS NEW NATIONAL ID CARD WITH MASTERCARD LOGO

Just recently the new national ID card which should be a means of identifying Nigerians was re-branded in the leadership of President Goodluck Jonathan. Problem is people assume it has a logo which should not be there in the first place.

President Jonathan formally launched the issuance process for the National ID card branded withMastercard's logo at an event held yesterday at the Presidential villa in Abuja.

He apparently forgot to explain to viewers why the UK based financial institution's brand was imprinted boldly on it, causing a stir from Nigerians all around the world.

Should the Mastercard brand be on the new National ID? You be the judges because Nigerians will be mandated to have one.

Prophet Who Predicted Ebola Virus Says The World Is Yet To See The Worst

Well only God knows who the real prophets are cus am sure God would not use anger to the destroy the world the second time according to his words in the bible but according to Brother Joshua Iginla (Prophet) and the General Overseer of Champions Royal Assembly Church based in Abuja has said the world is yet to see the worst of Ebola. The Prophet who predicted in December 2013 that a certain virus would hit the world says scientists are doing their part and its left for spiritual leaders to come together, so they can take care of the spiritual aspect. His words;

There is a spiritual undertone to the issue. There is a link between the witchcraft coven and the marine world that lures people into hell and this is what I’m seeing. I am not mincing words. God revealed it to me which I have said that there would be something like a vaccine or hope that would come and it would be discovered by a group of scientists led by a white scientist with a bald head and this research will bring about 10 per cent hope.  However, there is hope if spiritual leaders can complement the work of the scientists.  As they are putting their heads together, we should also assemble to pray for the world.  The way out is for us to adhere to measures put in place to prevent it and most important, turn to God.

Etcetera Addresses Actress Omoni Oboli's Indecent Dressing To Aso Rock

Etcetera is back. In this edition of his weekly Punch column, the writer and singer talks about indecent dressing and actress Omoni Oboli's recent fashion gaffe at Aso rock.

He said:

Remember Monica Lewinsky? If you do, then you should also remember the "Blue Dress" she wore to the white house that got President Clinton, the most powerful man in the world and the then president of the United States of America almost impeached. And 16 years on, just when everyone thought the seductive blue dress has been locked away in a highly secured vault somewhere at the pentagon, it reared its dangerous head at Nigeria's presidential villa, worn by a nollywood actress for her movie premiere.

Only this time, it was seductively patterned as a strip wear. Is the second donning of the dreaded blue dress a decoy to seduce another president? This time around, the president of the most powerful black nation in the world. Well, your guess is as good as mine. I can still remember being glued to my laptop trying to make sense out of the picture of our president shaking hands with "The lady in blue", with a larger part of her cleavage exposed for the world to see.

It got me wondering how anyone dressed in such a manner could have been allowed anywhere near the presidential villa for any reason. How did she get past security? The habit of indecently dressed nollywood actresses tiptoeing around the presidency should not be permitted. The presidential villa is no place for a movie premiere, neither is it a place for a dress rehearsal of any sort. And as far as I can remember, the federal ministry of tourism never issued any statement declaring the presidential villa a tourist site.

So please take your sliced gowns and facial foundations elsewhere. After all there's been no complaints about the architectural foundation upon which the presidential villa stands. Let us stop distracting the President from his constitutional duties unnecessarily. Leave him alone to concentrate on more pressing matters of state. His constitutional duties do not revolve around entertainers. I can't see how premiering your movie at the presidency serves this nation?

It is a no-brainer that the president needs time and space to concentrate and fulfil his elective duties, but I find it baffling that some entertainers don't seem to understand what distractions are? And If you reasoned, your movie will help pull the country's head above the parapet, why not have it screened at a pubic cinema to the benefit of all? Please for the love of this country, keep the vanity fair and celebitchy attitude away from the presidency.

We always take things to the extreme in this country. Very soon the musicians will start taking their album listening parties and their musical video premieres to the presidential villa. Can you imagine Angelina Jolie premiering her movies at the White House? The American government will never approve of such.

Isn't it shameful that the President seems to have become the prerequisite for making movies or holding events in this country? The president's goodwill and open arms shouldn't be given misguided interpretations. Stop painting the presidency as a place for extra curricula activities. We need the president's full concentration at this material time when the country is at war on so many fronts.

There are indeed more pressing matters calling for the president's attention. The chibok girls issue is still a lingering embarrassment to the nation, while Grand scale corruption is another stigma that is yet to be dealt with. With ebola and terrorism crying to the president for attention, isn't it extremely insensitive of any individual taking his or her selfish interest to a president that already seems overwhelmed with too many activities?

As a nation, we are at a delicate point. It is up to us if we are to get out of this mess. What Mr. President needs most importantly is our prayers not seduction or distraction.

OH YES! 3 Ways Hot Weather Leads To Good S*x

couple on the beach piggy back

Three ways the sticky, sweaty summer means good news for your sex life.

One-hundred-degree weather doesn't typically evoke sensuality, but sex author Ian Kerner (Sex Recharge, She Comes First) argues that stifling temperatures can actually heat up your sex life. In fact, a humid afternoon could actually (gasp) be an aphrodisiac. Here's three ways Kerner makes the case for why summer could very well be the sexiest season. Summer Fling Checklist
1.) Sweat is sexy. It releases natural pheromonesIan Kerner's first tip for braving the nasty funk of summer's stenchiest afternoons? Don't fight it. Get out of the A/C and soak up the heat. Insane? Perhaps. But you, your partner and your libido may thank him later.

"It may sound a little counterintuitive, but sweat releases the body's natural pheromones. Go with the heat, get out and break a sweat," he said. "Sweat contains steroid hormones that act like your body's natural perfume, except it's your natural scent which has an aphrodisiac effect."

2.) Outdoor activities are sexy. They encourage endorphins: Endorphins are your body's natural feel-good chemicals, so take advantage of the sunshine-laden afternoons and balmy nights to get in touch with your inner Golden Retriever. Go running in the park, play frisbee at the beach, go sightseeing or hiking.

"Exercise is great for self-esteem building. Plus, any kind of physical activity released endorphins," he said. In some studies endorphins from exercise have been linked to better sex, especially in women, so take advantage of this jacket-free weather and get physical. Outdoor Camping goes Glam

Governor Sule Lamido Appoints Obasanjo As Jigawa Varsity Chancellor

Governor Sule Lamido of Jigawa today appointed former President Olusegun Obasanjo as the pioneer Chancellor of the newly established Jigawa State University.

The State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Haruna Wakili, stated this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Dutse. The commissioner also explains that the appointment letter has been sent through a delegate to the former President at his country home in Abeokuta.

On why the State Government choose Obasanjo, Wakili said;

“The government arrived at the decision after due consideration of his immense contributions to the making of modern Nigeria; as former military head of state and two terms democratically elected President.

“Obasanjo is an internationally recognised and respected elder statesman and indeed an eminent personality of proven integrity who served his country to the peak, diligently, selflessly and sincerely,” he said.

45 Best Health Tips Ever

http://www.shutterstock.com/cat.mhtml?lang=en&sear

1. Copy your kitty: Learn to do stretching exercises when you wake up. It boosts circulation and digestion, and eases back pain.
2. Don’t skip breakfast. Studies show that eating a proper breakfast is one of the most positive things you can do if you are trying tolose weight. Breakfast skippers tend to gain weight. A balanced breakfast includes fresh fruit or fruit juice, a high-fibre breakfast cereal, low-fat milk or yoghurt, wholewheat toast, and a boiled egg.
3. Brush up on hygiene. Many people don't know how to brush their teeth properly. Improper brushing can cause as much damage to the teeth and gums as not brushing at all. Lots of people don’t brush for long enough, don’t floss and don’t see a dentistregularly. Hold your toothbrush in the same way that would hold a pencil, and brush for at least two minutes.

This includes brushing the teeth, the junction of the teeth and gums, the tongue and the roof of the mouth. And you don't need a fancy, angled toothbrush – just a sturdy, soft-bristled one that you replace each month.
4. Neurobics for your mind. Get your brain fizzing with energy. American researchers coined the term ‘neurobics’ for tasks which activate the brain's own biochemical pathways and to bring new pathways online that can help to strengthen or preserve brain circuits.

Brush your teeth with your ‘other’ hand, take a new route to work or choose your clothes based on sense of touch rather than sight. People with mental agility tend to have lower rates of Alzheimer's disease and age-related mental decline.
5. Get what you give! Always giving and never taking? This is the short road to compassion fatigue. Give to yourself and receive from others, otherwise you’ll get to a point where you have nothing left to give. And hey, if you can’t receive from others, how can you expect them to receive from you?

Read: Mind aerobics
6. Get spiritual. A study conducted by the formidably sober and scientific Harvard Universityfound that patients who were prayed for recovered quicker than those who weren’t, even if they weren’t aware of the prayer.
7. Get smelly. Garlic, onions, spring onions and leeks all contain stuff that’s good for you. A study at the Child’s Health Institute in Cape Town found that eating raw garlic helped fight serious childhood infections. Heat destroys these properties, so eat yours raw, wash it down with fruit juice or, if you’re a sissy, have it in tablet form.
8. Knock one back. A glass of red wine a day is good for you. A number of studies have found this, but a recent one found that the polyphenols (a type of antioxidant) in green teared wineand olives may also help protect you against breast cancer. It’s thought that the antioxidants help protect you from environmental carcinogens such as passive tobacco smoke.
9. Bone up daily. Get your daily calcium by popping a tab, chugging milk or eating yoghurt. It’ll keep your bones strong. Remember that your bone density declines after the age of 30. You need at least 200 milligrams daily, which you should combine with magnesium, or it simply won’t be absorbed.
10. Berries for your belly. Blueberries, strawberries and raspberries contain plant nutrients known as anthocyanidins, which are powerful antioxidants. Blueberries rival grapes in concentrations of resveratrol – the antioxidant compound found in red wine that has assumed near mythological proportions. Resveratrol is believed to help protect against heart disease and cancer.
11. Curry favour. Hot, spicy foods containing chillies or cayenne pepper trigger endorphins, the feel-good hormones. Endorphins have a powerful, almost narcotic, effect and make you feel good after exercising. But go easy on the lamb, pork and mutton and the high-fat, creamy dishes served in many Indian restaurants.
12. Cut out herbs before ops. Some herbal supplements – from the popular St John's Wort and ginkgo biloba to garlic, ginger, ginseng and feverfew – can cause increased bleeding duringsurgery, warn surgeons. It may be wise to stop taking all medication, including herbal supplements, at least two weeks before surgery, and inform your surgeon about your herbal use.
13. I say tomato. Tomato is a superstar in the fruit and veggie pantheon. Tomatoes contain lycopene, a powerful cancer fighter. They’re also rich in vitamin C. The good news is that cooked tomatoes are also nutritious, so use them in pasta, soups and casseroles, as well as in salads.

The British Thoracic Society says that tomatoes and apples can reduce your risk of asthma andchronic lung diseases. Both contain the antioxidant quercetin. To enjoy the benefits, eat five apples a week or a tomato every other day.
14. Eat your stress away. Prevent low blood sugar as it stresses you out. Eat regular and small healthy meals and keep fruit and veggies handy. Herbal teas will also soothe your frazzled nerves.

Eating unrefined carbohydrates, nuts and bananas boosts the formation of serotonin, another feel-good drug. Small amounts of protein containing the amino acid tryptamine can give you a boost when stress tires you out.
15. Load up on vitamin C.We need at least 90 mg of vitamin C per day and the best way to get this is by eating at least five servings of fresh fruit and vegetables every day. So hit the oranges and guavas!
16. No folly in folic acid. Folic acid should be taken regularly by all pregnant mums and people with a low immunity to disease. Folic acid prevents spina bifida in unborn babies and can play a role in cancer prevention. It is found in green leafy vegetables, liver, fruit and bran.
17. A for Away. This vitamin, and beta carotene, help to boost immunity against disease. It also assists in the healing process of diseases such as measles and is recommended by the WHO. Good natural sources of vitamin A are kidneys, liver, dairy products, green and yellow vegetables, pawpaw, mangoes, chilli pepper, red sorrel and red palm oil.
18. Pure water. Don’t have soft drinks or energy drinks while you're exercising. Stay properlyhydrated by drinking enough water during your workout (just don't overdo things, as drinking too much water can also be dangerous).

While you might need energy drinks for long-distance running, in shorter exercise sessions in the gym, your body will burn the glucose from the soft drink first, before starting to burn body fat. Same goes for eating sweets.
19. GI, Jane. Carbohydrates with a high glycaemic index, such as bread, sugar, honey and grain-based food will give instant energy and accelerate your metabolism. If you’re trying to burn fat, stick to beans, rice, pasta, lentils, peas, soya beans and oat bran, all of which have a low GI count.
20. Mindful living. You've probably heard the old adage that life's too short to stuff a mushroom. But perhaps you should consider the opposite: that life's simply too short NOT to focus on the simple tasks. By slowing down and concentrating on basic things, you'll clear your mind of everything that worries you.

Really
concentrate on sensations and experiences again: observe the rough texture of a strawberry's skin as you touch it, and taste the sweet-sour juice as you bite into the fruit; when your partner strokes your hand, pay careful attention to the sensation on your skin; and learn to really focus on simple tasks while doing them, whether it's flowering plants or ironing your clothes.
21. The secret of stretching. When you stretch, ease your body into position until you feel the stretch and hold it for about 25 seconds. Breathe deeply to help your body move oxygen-rich blood to those sore muscles. Don't bounce or force yourself into an uncomfortable position.
22. Do your weights workout first. Experts say weight training should be done first, because it's a higher intensity exercise compared to cardio. Your body is better able to handle weight training early in the workout because you're fresh and you have the energy you need to work it.

Conversely, cardiovascular exercise should be the last thing you do at the gym, because it helps your body recover by increasing blood flow to the muscles, and flushing out lactic acid, which builds up in the muscles while you're weight training. It’s the lactic acid that makes your muscles feel stiff and sore.
23. Burn fat during intervals. To improve your fitness quickly and lose weight, harness the joys of interval training. Set the treadmill or step machine on the interval programme, where your speed and workload varies from minute to minute. Build up gradually, every minute and return to the starting speed. Repeat this routine. Not only will it be less monotonous, but you can train for a shorter time and achieve greater results.
24. Your dirtiest foot forward. If your ankles, knees, and hips ache from running on pavement, head for the dirt. Soft trails or graded roads are a lot easier on your joints than the hard stuff. Also, dirt surfaces tend to be uneven, forcing you to slow down a bit and focus on where to put your feet – great for agility and concentration.
25. Burn the boredom, blast the lard. Rev up your metabolism by alternating your speed and intensity during aerobic workouts. Not only should you alternate your routine to prevent burnout or boredom, but to give your body a jolt.

If you normally walk at 6.5km/h on the treadmill or take 15 minutes to walk a km, up the pace by going at 8km/h for a minute or so during your workout. Do this every five minutes or so. Each time you work out, increase your bouts of speed in small increments.
26. Cool off without a beer. Don’t eat carbohydrates for at least an hour after exercise. This will force your body to break down body fat, rather than using the food you ingest. Stick to fruit and fluids during that hour, but avoid beer.
27. ‘Okay, now do 100 of those’. Instead of flailing away at gym, enlist the help – even temporarily – of a personal trainer. Make sure you learn to breathe properly and to do the exercises the right way. You’ll get more of a workout while spending less time at the gym.
28. Stop fuming. Don’t smoke and if you smoke already, do everything in your power to quit. Don’t buy into that my-granny-smoked-and-lived-to-be-90 crud – not even the tobacco giants believe it. Apart from the well-known risks of heart disease and cancer, orthopaedic surgeons have found that smoking accelerates bone density loss and constricts blood flow. So you could live to be a 90-year-old amputee who smells of stale tobacco smoke. Unsexy.
29. Ask about Mad Aunt Edith. Find out your family history. You need to know if there are any inherited diseases prowling your gene pool. According to the Mayo Clinic, USA, finding out what your grandparents died of can provide useful – even lifesaving – information about what’s in store for you. And be candid, not coy: 25% of the children of alcoholics become alcoholics themselves.
30. Do self-checks. Do regular self-examinations of your breasts. Most partners are more than happy to help, not just because breast cancer is the most common cancer among SA women. The best time to examine your breasts is in the week after your period.
31. My smear campaign. Have a pap smear once a year. Not on our list of favourite things, but it’s vital. Cervical cancer kills 200 000 women a year and it’s the most prevalent form of cancer among black women, affecting more than 30 percent.

But the chances of survival are nearly 100 percent if it’s detected early. Be particularly careful if you became sexually active at an early age, have had multiple sex partners or smoke.
32. Understand hormones. Recent research suggests that short-term (less than five years) use of HRT is not associated with an increase in the risk of breast cancer, but that using it for more than ten years might be. Breast cancer is detected earlier in women using HRT, as they are more alert to the disease than other women.
32. Beat the sneezes. There are more than 240 allergens, some rare and others very common. If you’re a sneezer due to pollen: close your car’s windows while driving, rather switch on the internal fan (drawing in air from the outside), and avoid being outdoors between 5am and 10 am when pollen counts are at their highest; stick to holidays in areas with low pollen counts, such as the seaside and stay away from freshly cut grass.
33. Doggone. If you’re allergic to your cat, dog, budgie or pet piglet, stop suffering the ravages of animal dander: Install an air filter in your home.

Keep your pet outside as much as possible and brush him outside of the home to remove loose hair and other allergens. Better yet, ask someone else to do so.
34. Asthma-friendly sports. Swimming is the most asthma-friendly sport of all, but cycling, canoeing, fishing, sailing and walking are also good, according to the experts.

Asthma need not hinder peak performance in sport. 1% of the US Olympic team were asthmatics – and between them they won 41 medals.
35. Deep heat. Sun rays can burn even through thick glass, and under water. Up to 35% of UVB rays and 85% of UVA rays penetrate thick glass, while 50% of UVB rays and 75% of UVA rays penetrate a meter of water and wet cotton clothing.

Which means you’ll need sunscreen while driving your car on holiday, and water resistant block if you’re swimming.
36. Fragrant ageing. Stay away from perfumed or flavoured suntan lotions which smell of coconut oil or orange if you want your skin to stay young. These lotions contain psoralen, which speeds up the ageing process. Rather use a fake-tan lotion. Avoid sun beds, which are as bad as the sun itself.
37. Sunscreen can be a smokescreen. Sunscreen is unlikely to stop you from being sunburned, or to reduce your risk of developing skin cancer. That’s because most people don’t apply it properly, and stay in the sun too long.

The solution? Slather on sunscreen daily and reapply it often, especially if you’ve been in the water. How much? At least enough to fill a shot glass.
38. Laugh and cry. Having a good sob is reputed to be good for you. So is laughter, which has been shown to help heal bodies, as well as broken hearts. Studies in Japan indicate that laughter boosts the immune system and helps the body shake off allergic reactions.
39. It ain’t over till it’s over. End relationships that no longer work for you, as you could be spending time in a dead end. Rather head for more meaningful things. You could be missing opportunities while you’re stuck in a meaningless rut, trying to breathe life into something that is long gone.
40. Strong people go for help. Ask for assistance. Gnashing your teeth in the dark will not get you extra brownie points. It is a sign of strength to ask for assistance and people will respect you for it. If there is a relationship problem, the one who refuses to go for help is usually the one with whom the problem lies to begin with.
41. Save steamy scenes for the bedroom. Showering or bathing in water that’s too hot will dry out your skin and cause it to age prematurely. Warm water is much better.

Apply moisturiser while your skin is still damp – it’ll be absorbed more easily. Adding a little olive oil to your bath with help keep your skin moisturised too.
42. Here’s the rub. Improve your circulation and help your lymph glands to drain by the way you towel off. Helping your lymph glands function can help prevent them becoming infected.

When drying off your limbs and torso, brush towards the groin on your legs and towards the armpits on your upper body. You can do the same during gentle massage with your partner.
43. Sugar-coated. More than three million South Africans suffer from type 2 diabetes, and the incidence is increasing – with new patients getting younger. New studies show this type of diabetes is often part of a metabolic syndrome (X Syndrome), which includes high blood pressure and other risk factors for heart disease.

More than 80% of type 2 diabetics die of heart disease, so make sure you control your glucose levels, and watch your blood pressure and cholesterol counts.
44. Relax, it’s only sex. Stress and sex make bad bedfellows, it seems. A US survey showed that stress, kids and work are main factors to dampen libido. With the advent of technology that allows us to work from home, the lines between our jobs and our personal lives have become blurred.

People work longer hours, commutes are longer and work pervades all aspects of our lives, including our sexual relationships. Put nooky and intimacy on the agenda, just like everything else.
45. Good night, sweetheart. Rest heals the body and has been shown to lessen the risk of heart trouble and psychological problems.
