Acid Attack Victim Naomi Oni Recounts Her Friend's Attitude After She Was Attacked
Speaking on This Morning today, Naomi revealed she even contemplated suicide over the false claims that she had poured the acid over herself.
She said:
'I was told there was no way of finding who this person was and after being questioned by the police and realising they were looking at me, trying to say that I done it to myself, I thought this is not going to happen. I'm not going to sit there and let them tell me that.

New Course On Beyonce Introduced At University
The class, which is called "Feminist Perspectives: Politicizing Beyoncé," is being offered during the Spring semester at the college.
Queen Bey 101 is taught by PhD candidate Kevin Allred, who explained to the Rutgers Today newspaper exactly what students can expect from the class.
"This isn't a course about Beyoncé's political engagement or how many times she performed during President Obama's inauguration weekend. Rather, the performer's music and career are used as lenses to explore American race, gender and sexual politics."
Allred pairs the lesson plans with the "Drunk in Love" songstress' music videos and lyrics – he's got plenty of material to choose from now.
But it's not all Bey all the time. He also includes writing from artists and pioneers in the black feminist movement like Sojourner Truth and Alice Walker.
And according to Allred, Beyoncé's class will be much more than a glossed-over run-through of her career.

Adebolajo, 29, from Romford, east London, said he was a "soldier of Allah" and it was an act of war. At the scene of the murder, he yelled after killing the soldier saying; "We swear by almighty Allah we will never stop fighting you. The only reason we have done this is because Muslims are dying every day. This British soldier is an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth."

Igbo Deportees Seek 1 Billion Naira Compensation From Lagos State
Seven plaintiffs filed the suit on behalf of 66 others and they are jointly seeking the compensation from the Lagos State government as general damages for breach of their rights. The seven plaintiffs are; Joseph Aniebonam, Osondu Mbuto, Osondu Agwu, Nnenna Ogbonna, Emily Okoroariri, Friday Ndukwe and Onyeka Ugwu.
Joined as respondents are the Attorney-General of Lagos State and the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State.
When the case was mentioned in court, the counsel representing the plaintiffs, Mr Ugo Ugwunnadi, told the court that the case was coming up for the first time.
He informed the court that he had only been served with the processes from the first respondent, the Attorney General of Lagos and that the second respondent, the commissioner of police, was yet to serve his process.
The counsel, therefore, asked the court to give parties a date for the hearing of the matter by which time lawyers involved would have perfected their processes.
The Counsel representing the Attorney General of Lagos State, Mr Tayo Odupitan, told the court that he had filed a counter-affidavit, written address and an exhibit, all in response to the plaintiffs' suit.
He, however, informed the court that the A-G Lagos State, Mr Ade Ipaye, had indicated his intention to defend the suit personally.
Meanwhile, Counsel to the Commissioner of Police, Mr Sam Adebeshin, told the court that he was yet to regularise the processes on behalf of the second respondent.
After listening to all the parties, Justice Rita Ofili-Ajumogobia adjourned the case to February 19 for further hearing.

Woman Identifies Bus Driver Who Kidnapped Her For Ritual Killing.

There was confusion at Somolu on Saturday when an unidentified woman accused a commercial driver, known simply as Paul, of kidnapping and ritual killing. The woman was said to have accosted Paul around noon while he was washing his bus outside his home at Sodeke Street, Somolu. The woman, on sighting Paul,went back for a closer inspection. She was said to have subsequently raised the alarm and held on to Paul and insisted that Paul was the driver of a bus that had kidnapped her a while ago."When she screamed and identified Paul as a kidnapper and ritualist; he at first, tried to escape. But the woman held on to him and kept telling curious residents that Paul was the driver of a bus that had kidnapped her and about 10 others a while ago. She claimed that she had boarded the bus at Odunlade Street in the evening and immediately became unconscious, along with other passengers who boarded the bus with her. She said that they did not regain consciousness until they got to an unknown destination.
She said she was released after her captors had used an object to touch her; she was the only one in the bus to regain her freedom. How she was able to find her way home, she could not recall."
The community development association chairman of the community alerted the Onipanu Police Division of the situation when it became apparent that the woman was not ready to let Paul go.
Paul's neighbours, dumbfounded by the allegations, were said to have admitted that they had no idea what he did for a living. Although they were aware that he often drove his commercial bus in the evenings. "Paul would on most mornings go out with his Sport Utility Vehicle, only to return in the evenings and drive out his commercial bus. Sometimes, he would travel for a two or three month stretch on business trips, but no one actually knows what he does for a living," a source said.
Policemen from the Onipanu Police Division were said to have taken Paul and his alleged victim to the station. The policemen were said to have later returned to search Paul's home. He was said to have been later transferred to the Area H Police Command, Ogudu.
Calls made to the Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ngozi Braide, rang out, while a text message to her telephone had yet to be replied as of the press time.

How Parents Locked Up Their Daughter For Almost 3 Years In A Cage Like Rabbit In Bayelsa
The grubby dungeon, located in front of her family apartment, was built with carton board and roofing sheets ostensibly to ward off the elements and gave it the semblance of a dwelling place. The less than four feet high structure could be mistaken for cage for dog.
Sadly, this had been the abode of 16-year-old Blessing Olokumo in the last two and a half years.
Blessing, a twin, whose little frame betrays her age, cuts the picture of neglect and abandonment. Her parents might have locked her up in the cage which had no window to keep her away from the public out of shame or wanted her dead.
Blessing's condition is pathetic. Unlike her twin sister in senior secondary school class 2, Blessing never had the opportunity of seeing the four walls of a school due to her health challenge with the result that she could only communicate in Isoko, her mother's native dialect.
Though the father is an indigene of Ayibabiri community in Kolokuma-Opokuma local government area of Bayelsa State, the mother, Binaese, is from Igbide in Isoko South local government area of Delta. Sunday Vanguard learnt that though Blessing's was born normal, her problem started about 13 years ago when she was aged three in Delta State.
She was said to have to have suffered from convulsion, which was not properly taken care of by her parents probably due to ignorance. The father was then said to have acted against doctor's advice by forcefully taking her away from the hospital where she receiving treatment because he could not afford the N15,000 medical bill. The convulsion was said to have worsened over time due to poor medical attention leading to her abnormal behaviour. The ailment is also believed to be responsible for her retarded growth when compared to her twin sister, a beautifully grown girl.
Although physically challenged kids like her deserve decent life, love and adequate medical attention, in her case she was treated cruelly; locked up in a cage lacking window for proper ventilation and light.
The place where she was confined for almost three years by her father shares fence with a medical facility where she is now receiving treatment.
Co-tenants, who could have notified the authorities on the girl's plight, looked the way ostensibly for fear of incurring the wrath of her father whose relation, Sunday Vanguard learnt, owned the house they are living in.
Succour however came her way last weekend when a concerned native of Okolobiri alerted the group, the Mary Slessor Twin Foundation, which rescued her and took her to the Niger Delta University Teaching Hospital, Okolobiri where she is receiving treatment.
When this reporter, on Thursday, visited what once served as her home, it was discovered that a rubber carpet had been laid on the bare floor with a view to making it look a little decent due to the public interest generated after her predicament was reported.
A resident berated the girl's parents. "This is the height of man's inhumanity to man, especially coming from one's own father. The girl though is retarded doesn't deserve the treatment meted to her. Before now, she used to walk freely around from her parents apartment to her mother's kiosk by the roadside without disturbing anybody," the resident said.
The girl, on admission at the teaching hospital courtesy of Mary Slessor Twins Foundation, cut the picture of a six-year-old. Her confinement and lack of care apparently left her malnourished, as according to the doctor handling her case, "she is 16 year old but her weight is like that of a five year old."Acting President of the Foundation, Mr. Tonyon Ebitei Robert, said she was locked up because she was defecating around the family house.
According to him, Blessing's father, who is also a twin and a security official with the Niger Delta University Teaching Hospital, Okolobiri, allegedly built the cage and locked up his daughter to keep her away from the main house.
"She was kept like a rabbit. She was given food when it was available and was allowed to sleep in her vomit, faeces, urine. She lost weight and could have died," Robert said.
He explained that the group, known for its campaign against maltreatment of twins, was contacted by concerned indigenes of Okolobiri community where the Olokumo family resides.
Blessing, he said, was rushed to the teaching hospital where she is being given medical treatment. Though the father was not around when Sunday Vanguard visited as he was said to have gone to Yenagoa for a verification exercise, the mother of the girl was sighted at the hospital keeping her company. The woman, who identified herself as Binaese, said the girl was locked up because she was roaming about and disturbing other neighbours, a claim that was dismissed by a resident who said the girl though has health challenges hardly disturbed anybody.
Dr. Deji, who was attending to the girl when Sunday Vanguard visited her, said: "We gathered that when she was three years, she started having convulsion and the convulsion worsened over time and due to the poor control of the convulsion she started having abnormal behaviour.
"About three years ago, the father decided to keep her in an enclosure outside the house and, over time, she degenerated. She wasn't well kept and her weight wasted. She is 16 years but her weight is like that of a five-year-old child."
According to him, the girl is a bit reserved most likely as a result of the trauma she may have undergone. The doctor went on: "There are signs of obvious neglect over time. It is the case of a child having seizure disorder which some people might call epilepsy, and was not treated appropriately. She was not given adequate medical attention and kept out of the house in a restricted environment and barely fed which resulted in malnutrition.
"She is responding gradually to treatment and is a bit more interested in her environment. When I first saw her, she refused my coming close to her but she now obeys instructions." President of the Mary Slessor Twins Foundation, Robert, gave kudos to the medical personnel handling her case saying she has improved tremendously. According to him, the group would lodge formal complaint with the police and the welfare department of Bayelsa State Ministry of Women Affairs.
"Criminal charges of child abduction, inhuman treatment, child molestation and failure to enroll the child for proper education will be brought against the parents," he said.
Also, the Chief Nengi James Foundation, on Thursday, visited the girl in hospital and made a cash donation to assist the Mary Slessor Twins Foundation pay Blessing's medical bills.
Represented by the immediate past Secretary of the state chapter of the Civil Liberties Organisation (CLO), Comrade Alagoa Morris, the Chief Nengi James Foundation urged parents to cater for their kids no matter the circumstances.

Student Of Regent University Ghana Buys Cannabis With Tuition Fee
NDLEA said the suspect, Udiomeh Kufre Ita, a student of the faculty of Management Sciences at the Regent University in Ghana, was arrested at the weekend at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos. He was caught with 1.745 kilogrammes of dried weeds that tested positive for cannabis popularly called hemp.
The suspect was found in possession of the drug during the inward screening of passengers on an Africa World Airlines flight from Accra, Ghana, said NDLEA Lagos Airport Commander, Hamza Umar.
"An undergraduate student was found in possession of two parcels of cannabis weighing 1.745kg during routine search of passengers. The drug was hidden inside his bag containing personal effects. He was immediately arrested and the case is under investigation," Hamza was quoted as saying.
"The suspect who reportedly gained admission into the faculty of Management Sciences at the Regent University is currently assisting narcotic investigators assigned to the case," NDLEA said in a statement signed by its spokesperson, Mitchell Ofoyeju.
In his confessional statement, Ita was quoted as saying that he used his tuition fees in purchasing the drug found on him.
"I spent my school fees on cell phone, smoking hemp and attending night clubs. I bought a cell phone for N107,000 and spent my school fees recklessly. I thought I could make enough profit from the sale of cannabis to offset the deficit in my tuition. I bought each parcel of hemp for 220 Ghana cedi. I did not know what came over me and I am afraid to go to my parents. My father is a retiree," the suspect was quoted as saying.
NDLEA said Ita hails from Akwa-Ibom State but grew up in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja.

The case drew thousands of protesters to the court, who threw stones at the men as they were being transported back to prison after the trial, as security forces fired into the air to disperse the angry crowd. The men were arrested by the Bauchi State Sharia Commission for allegedly engaging in homosexual activities, acts that contravene the Islamic laws which the state had been operating under since 2001.The men were named as Shehu Adamu, Yusuf Adamu, Aliyu Dalhatu, Abdulmalik Tanko, Usman Sabo and Hazif Sabo Abubakar and Ibrahim Marafa.
It was the first case since President Goodluck Jonathan signed a bill that criminalises same-sex relationships, defying Western pressure over gay rights and provoking criticism from the United States.
The bill, which contains penalties of up to 14 years in prison and bans gay marriage, same-sex "amorous relationships" and membership of gay rights groups, was passed by the National Assembly last May but Jonathan had delayed signing it into law until early January.
At Thursday's trial, the prosecuting lawyer said the case was a direct result of the recently-passed law.
"This is further to the law against homosexuals which was signed by the President. It has to be implemented. People caught breaking this law must be prosecuted accordingly," said Danlami Ayuba.
The trial was adjourned to January 27.

14-Year Old Girl Stabs 11-Year Old Sister 40 Times Because She Wasn’t Thankful
An 11-year-old Illinois girl was stabbed 40 times by her 14-year-old sister, police say, and the reason why has many in the small Chicago-area community of Mundelein reeling in disbelief.
Police found the 11-year-old girl unconscious and in need of medical attention in an upstairs bedroom of the dwelling Tuesday morning. She later died.
Because the sister, who called police, initially told officers an intruder was to blame for the attack, authorities briefly placed three schools on lockdown. The truth, when it emerged, was even more shocking.
The 14-year-old, authorities say, repeatedly and fatally stabbed the victim -- her half sister -- with a kitchen knife because the teen thought she was ungrateful.
"This incident is a heart breaking tragedy that defies understanding," said Mundelein Mayor Steve Lentz. "I am asking the Chicagoland area, please pray for us. Pray, first of all, for the family that has been devastated by this."
A group called "Mundelein Moms" is raising money for the girl's funeral and said it raised $6,381 in just one day. There also is an effort to have residents leave their lights on Friday night in remembrance.
