The IGP, Mr. Arase, in a circular, dated January 4, has directed that policemen should desist from illegally accessing people’s mobile phones.
This disclosure was brought to light by the Officer in Charge of the Complaint Response Unit of the Nigerian Police Force, Mr. Yomi Shogunle, in a tweet shared via his Twitter handle.

Mr. Arase urged members of the public to contact @PoliceNG_CRU should any officer illegally search their phones.
It was learnt that officers of the Nigerian police force in recent times have been engaging in illegal searching of citizens’ mobile phones under the guise of their search of ‘Yahoo boys’ also known as Internet fraudsters, despite properly identifying themselves.
