From the 10th of December AfriDocs returned to its regular weekly schedule including the best documenataries from across Africa and beyond. As we head into the festive season AfriDocs celebrates some inspirational positive stories of hope and progress from Africa.

Finding Hillywood examines how the blossoming film industry in Rwanda is helping to heal the wounds of the past, Tour de Faso follows the competitors in Burkino Faso’s ten-stage cycle race, and When Voices Meet documents the 500 strong choir that was formed in South Africa after the release of Nelson Mandela.

Finding Hillywood chronicles one man's road to forgiveness, his effort to heal his country, and the realization that we all must one day face our past. In Hillywood (Rwanda's film industry named for the country's rolling hills) there is a blossoming film community. As Rwanda is still healing from the wounds of a cultural genocide almost 20 years ago, cinema has become a way for artists to express themselves and create cultural discussion.

It’s a passionate race for making their dream come true. Yet the film does not focus on the question of who will win – instead, it pays particular attention to the value of the protagonists’ experiences.

Meet outspoken and androgynous music star Wiyaala and exciting trick bikers Bikelordz whose BMX skills and flamboyant style have taken neighbourhoods by storm. Artist Serge Attukwei Clottey highlights environmental issues through street performances as his alter ego, Afrogallonism, the modern water warrior.

When Voices Meet | Nancy Sutton Smith | South Africa | 2015 | 86 min
When Nelson Mandela was finally released from prison, courageous South African musicians formed a 500-voice, multiracial children’s choir. Threatened with bombs and thwarted at every turn, they prevailed and railroaded across the country aboard The Peace Train. When Voices Meet documents the trials, tribulations and triumphs of those musician activists and young choir members.
