It’s less than 16 days to the 2015 edition of the Nigerian Student Fashion and Design Week!
While there is so much excitement as to what this years event will bring, the organizers have released a list of some of the designers that will be showcasing at the event.
One cannot but be marveled at the enormous talent exhibited by these young Nigerian youth and their relentless fight to beat unemployment and make a name for themselves in today’s market. Such talent and zeal is what pushes us every year at BlackNBold Fashion House to ensure this platform is made available.
Check out some of the emerging designers in Nigeria that will be showcasing at this year’s edition of Winasbet Niigerian Student Fashion And Design Week below!
1. Odukale Rolex Enitan
Odukale Rolex Enitan is an Undergraduate student of Babcock University and the creative director of “Omidan”. He is one of the selected teenage designers whose showcase fee will be fully funded by NSFDW sponsor; Winasbet. He will be showcasing his new collection “Adunni” at the Pre-Gala show.
Every designer has what inspired them into fashion, for Enitan, it was the pictures of his late mum. He has always been a fan of the 90’s fabrics. In translation “Adunni” has to do with been happy and the sweetness of nature.
2. Atoba Cynthia
“CY’S FIT COUTURE”, is owned and managed by Atoba Cynthia, She is currently a student of the Federal University of Technology, Adamawa where she is studying Library and Information Science. Her collection “Modern Shades of Glam” is inspired by God and the modern ladies. She hopes to use fashion to express her individuality and to the Glory of God.
According to her, being at NSFDW should be a platform for the upliftment of her brand. She wants to use the medium to grow in her strength as a creative designer and also as a platform to learn from other designers.
“Winning might be everybody’s expectation but I believe it’s always better been a part of the race. And if your hard work rewards you, then ultimately that’s fine but if not, you’ll work harder until you getbetter”. Says Cynthia.
3. Mercy Solomon
Mercy Solomon is the creative director of “Mesoben”. She is currently enrolled at Image Plus Designs and Fashion Scool. Her collection “Femme Féroce” is inspired by contemporary urban fashion with the perfect mix of African youth and culture, giving it a new style never seen before. She came across an NSFDW flyer in 2013 and she attended as an observer and was pleased at what she saw. Hence, this year, she decided to showcase with the encouragement of her family. She believes NSFDW provides the right platform for emerging designers to launch their fashion career.
4. Ogbuefi Blessing Ogechukwu
Ogbuefi Blessing Ogechukwu is another designer to lookout for. She is the creative director of Bibilawrence. She studied fashion design at the Yaba College of Technology where she graduated in 2012. Her collection “The goddess” is inspired by nature and Greece. Nature which shows in her colour palette, and Greece which shows in her use of drapes.
”I heard about NSFDW last year when I just finished NYSC, and I saw it as good launching ground for Bibilawrence. I want to use NSFDW as a launching ground to make my debut. It would get the Bibilawrence brand in people’s consciousness, and also get the necessary exposure I need, then on to bigger things. I also expect to win the NSFDW best designer award. I think the Nigerian fashion industry is evolving despite the various challenges designers face daily like production hub, etc. The Nigerian fashion industry has the potential of raking in tons of revenue for the country, but the Government has to come in and support strongly for this to become a reality.” she said.
5. Joymary Okafor
“Joymarie” is the brand name coined by Joymary Okafor. She is schooling at the National Open University. Her collection is inspired by the vintage sense of style. It is for a woman who loves vintage but also wants to keep up with the contemporary style. So harmonising these two eras is why her collection at the NSFDW is called “Harmony”.
Her collection is predominantly based on monochromes stripes that feature amazing pieces which includes asymmetrical hemline, midi skirts, culottes, jumpsuit, pants, dresses and crop tops that come in different silhouette. Her expectation for the show is to clinch the grand price, become a brand name and be patronised by people.
