Meriam Ibrahim's Brother Vowed To Kill Her After He Heard Of Her Release

Meriam Ibrahim, who was sentenced to death in Sudan for refusing to become a Muslim has been dramatically freed. Sudan's court of cassation had thrown out Meriam's death sentence and freed her after a presentation by her legal team, only for her to get rearrested again over a travel document and then later freed again.

Now, according to an update on DailyMail, the night Meriam was released, the man who claimed to be her brother had gone to Meriam's prison in Khartoum and upon discovering she had been freed, flew into a rage and vowed to kill her.

Al-Samani al-Hadi told CNN on Tuesday:

The family is unconvinced by the court's decision. We were not informed by the court that she was to be released; this came as a surprise to us. The law has failed to uphold our rights. This is now an issue of honour. The Christians have tarnished our honour, and we will know how to avenge it.'Also speaking to a Sudanese paper, al-Samani al-Hadi, said that Meriam had been 'kidnapped' from the family who she should have been returned to, not her husband. He is the same guy that said Meriam should be executed if she refuses to return to their faith.

Meanwhile, Meriam is now set to fly to South Sudan and from there on to America where she could start a new life with her kids and husband. Campaigners however have urged caution and said that they will wait until Meriam actually gets out of Sudan before celebrating.
