Manny Pacquiao considers fighting in Rio – Filipino boxing legend Manny Pacquiao has admitted that he would consider participating at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
Full-time professionals are normally not allowed to participate in the Olympics, but the International Boxing Association is proposing to change the rules.
“We want the best boxers to come to the Olympic Games. It is Aiba’s 70th birthday, and we want something to change – not after four years, but now,” Aiba president Wu Ching-kuo said.
Pacquiao on his part is thinking about it. “I’m not saying I’m going to fight or saying I’m not,” Pacquiao said. “I’m not closing the door. I’m thinking about it.”
“The idea you’ll allow professionals into the Olympics at this short notice is absolutely insane,” boxing promoter Bob Arum said, not sharing Pacquiao’s optimism. “These people ought to have their heads examined.”
