Governor Ambode To Cancel Restriction On Sanitation Day

Governor Ambode

The Governor Akinwunmi Ambode-led government of Lagos state has unveiled plans to cancel restriction during the monthly environmental sanitation in the state by the end of 2016.

This was declared on Thursday by the Commissioner for the Environment, Dr Babatunde Adejare, at the monthly briefing of the ministry.

“Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, in line with his responsive government, hopes to discontinue restriction during the monthly environmental sanitation exercise,” he said.

According to the governor, Lagos state, which is the fifth biggest economy in Africa, should always function round the clock.

Mr Adejare said that the government could no longer afford to keep shutting down the megacity because of sanitation.

In a related development, the commissioner disclosed that the state government had issued a seven-day notice with effect from Thursday to some markets across the state for violating environmental laws.

The markets include Sura, Itafaji, Oke-Odo, Sangrouse, Bariga, Ajah Ultra-Modern, Agbalaka, Aiyetoro, Sabo and Ita-elewa in Ikorodu.

Adejare said the markets would be shut if the traders failed to comply with relevant laws regarding sanitation.
