Since the creation of the first Barbie doll, she has been a target for unrealistic beauty standards and the wrath of the internet for her over-dependent relationship with Ken (her boyfriend). Now, Graphic Artist & Researcher – Nikolay Lamm has created the "Normal Barbie" he named after himself – "Lammily".
Wanting to show that "reality is cool", Lamm has crafted the doll true to reality with a sticker pack that comes with scars, cellulite, stretch marks, bruises and more stickers; and based on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's description of the average 19-year-old. You can literally place the stickers where you want to show the reality of your Barbie.
Recently, Lamm took the new doll to an elementary school to prove critics who think little girls want a Barbie that is idealistic, wrong. And guess what? The girls loved it!
Some of the reactions we absolutely love were when the little girls and boy said "she looks like my sister"; "She kinda looks like my Aunt Katie"; "She's not like other dolls that I play with,…she's really unique because I don't have other dolls like this, she looks real"; "She looks like a regular girl going to school" and "She looks like she would help somebody if they get hurt".
Watch their reactions below;
We think this is definitely a step in the right direction. Would you get your kid a Lammily doll?
